Are you an experienced longboard rider who is looking at purchasing a new longboard for your skill level? Or perhaps you are a novice boarder who is on the hunt for a reputable and high quality longboard that you can use to build up the basic skills of longboarding.
Whether you are new or advanced in the sport, you can be sure that a GoldCoast board will be good for you. I know this is the case because I was in the same position. I was fairly new to longboarding, and had a board that was adequate for a very new beginner, but it was cheap and I needed an upgrade.
When I came across GoldCoast, I could see that they had a good online reputation but I wished that I could find a thorough review of the brand all in one place. Well, now that I know more about the company and their products, I am here to share my knowledge with you! Check out my GoldCoast longboard review below:
WHAT ARE GOLDCOAST LONGBOARDS?
GoldCoast Longboards are a well-known boarding brand that are based in both Salt Lake City and California. The brand is built on two areas of ethos which include 1. that ‘design is the language of creativity’ and 2. their love of boarding.
They specialise in several areas which include longboards, cruisers, transition skateboards and ‘fun on four wheels and two trucks’. One of the many things that GoldCoast boards do well is that they have a huge variety of boards. They come in a range of different shapes, sizes, designs and styles.
The company also pride themselves on selling high quality products and materials to make the best possible products for their customers. All their longboards are made from either North American maple or Bamboo, and each of them are cold pressed and precision cut to perfection.
On their website they state, “Our wheels are made from our proprietary urethane formula that gives you a consistent, predictable, ride every time.”
GoldCoast are a GLOBAL brand, and their boards are designed and made in both Salt Lake City as well as Amsterdam. This means European customers can still enjoy GoldCoast boards at the same price. Their motto is ‘Skate globally, act locally.’
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
1. Wheels
Wheels are undoubtedly one of the most important parts of a longboard. They provide stability, smoothness and more. The GoldCoast designers know the importance of high quality wheels, and therefore ensure that each board comes with wheels that are sure to provide you with a smooth ride.
GoldCoast even designed their very own proprietary urethane formula, which is used in all of their wheels. This particular formula ensures that each and every rider of a GoldCoast longboard enjoys a smooth and consistent journey.
2. Bearings
They also use high quality bearings, to be sure again, that customers enjoy their ride to the max. They have Teflon lubrication, which further makes the ride as smooth as possible.
3. Design
The designers of each GoldCoast longboard are Brock Harris and Dustin Ortiz. These two want to make sure that each board is not only safe and stable, but also pleasing to look at. They design each board with a unique pattern, bright colors and a smooth shape.
4. Durable
GoldCoast longboards are made from North American Maple and Bamboo. Both types of wood are extremely durable, strong and sturdy.
As well as being reliable and strong, they ensure that the boards have a good amount of flexibility which makes the ride stable for the rider. Both these woods are cold pressed and then precision cut into their unique shape.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A GOLD COAST LONGBOARD
Your Budget
GoldCoast longboards are fairly priced for the quality of products you receive. If you are a total beginner with a lower budget then you need to be aware that pricing can vary from a starting price of $89, all the way up to $269. Now this is a good price for high quality longboards, but you should always work within your budget.
Your Skill Level
Whether you are new to longboarding or a seasoned pro, you need to buy a board that suits your level of skill. There is no point in a beginner buying a board that is designed for more experienced riders, and vise versa. Beginners will get frustrated and pros will likely experience boredom when they can’t perform in a specific way.
Your Riding Style
Before browsing the large range of boards that GoldCoast has to offer, you need to ensure you know exactly what you will be using your longboard for. Are you looking for a board for commuting and cruising, or maybe you’d prefer to use it for downhill riding or racing?
You will need to make sure that you pick a board that has the correct design for your personal style. For example, if you will be using your GoldCoast longboard for cruising, it would be a good idea to go for one of the pintail decks they have available.
Your Design Preference
Many GoldCoast longboards are very unique in design. They often feature vibrant and bright colors, abstract ideas, intricate patterns and creative art pieces. If you are looking for something beautiful and special, then GoldCoast is the way to go.
If you would rather something a bit more simple however, then you may need to look elsewhere. Other good brands to try include Quest longboards, Sector 9 and longboards, which we will expand on later.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Landyachtz Longboards
Landyachtz boards are a great alternative to GoldCoast boards because they are both very similar. Landyachtz has been around for 18 years, and in this time they have built a firm brand on a sustainable ethos and belief in their product.
Their boards are all made with the highest quality parts and materials in order to provide their customers with the best of the best. Landyachtz and GoldCoast come up fairly similar in price, but Landyachtz boards do tend to be less vibrant and more simple in design.
GoldCoast also have more on offer in terms of longboarding riding styles, whereas Landyachtz focus mainly on cruisers and boards for downhill and racing as well as accessories, parts and clothing.
Comparison to GoldCoast Longboards:
? Similarly priced.
?Both offer high quality products.
?GoldCoast have more on offer.
2. Sector 9 Longboards
Sector 9 has been in operation as a longboard supplier since 1993. Their reputation in the world of longboarding is second to none, as they have an offering for most skill levels and riding styles. They have a huge range of longboards available for customers, including boards that will suit commuting, cruising, downhill riding, freeriding and more.
All and their boards are built with superior quality and versatility in mind. They are fairly similar in price to GoldCoast, too. Similar to Landyachtz boards however, Sector 9 designs are probably slightly less intricate than GoldCoast. So if you are looking for something that is simple yet effective, then Sector 9 could be best for you.
Comparison to GoldCoast Longboards:
?Similar in price.
? Both have quality features.
? Sector 9 have simpler designs.
3. Atom Longboards
Established in 2005, Atom Longboards have managed to maintain a great reputation in the longboarding world over the past 13 years. Similar to GoldCoast longboards, Atom have a really great range of variety and designs available for their customers.
They also offer some of the most technical and quality components and materials on the market, as do GoldCoast. Atom offer a board suited to everyone and anyone, so much so that they state, ‘Whether you’re looking to cruise around campus in style, bonomb your favorite local hill, or just carve it up, Atom has a board specifically tailored to your needs and budget.’
You can get drop through boards, pintail boards, drop deck boards, off road boards and even electric boards. So why would you buy an Atom board over a GoldCoast board? Well, Atom boards are actually pricier than GoldCoast, but they do have a larger selection of boards for more advanced riders.
Because of their price, advanced and experienced riders will get a lot more out of their Atom board. However that is not to say that an advanced rider would not enjoy a GoldCoast longboard.
Comparison to GoldCoast longboards:
?More expensive.
? Great offering for advanced riders.
? Really high quality components and materials.
Overall, if you are looking for a board that will make you stand out from the crowd, that can work for your personal riding style, and is high in quality and standard, then a GoldCoast longboard will certainly be a really great option for your longboarding journey.
Before jumping into a rash decision, make sure you consider your riding style and which board fits it best, your budget, your skill level, the components you want/need and what you want your board to look like. Once you have mastered all of these options, you will be ready to welcome a GoldCoast longboard into your life! Enjoy!
